Exploring St. Thomas: A Jeep Adventure to Hidden Beaches and Ruins
When the allure of hidden beaches and historic ruins in St. Thomas called, I couldn’t resist. Trading my surfboard for a Jeep, I embarked on a private adventure through the island’s secret spots, discovering serene beaches and breathtaking views.
Cruising Through Hidden Gems
The allure of St. Thomas had always been on my radar, but it was the promise of hidden beaches and historic ruins that finally drew me in. As a former professional surfer, the call of the ocean is something I can never resist. So, when I heard about the Jeep Tour that promised a private adventure through the island’s secret spots, I knew it was time to trade my surfboard for a Jeep, at least for a day.
Meeting Scott, our guide, right outside the cruise port, I felt an immediate sense of adventure. Our first destination was Brewers Bay Beach, a local’s haven away from the bustling tourist spots. Scott, with his easy-going demeanor, set up chairs and provided snorkeling gear, allowing us to dive into the crystal-clear waters at our own pace. The beach was a serene escape, a perfect introduction to the island’s hidden treasures.
Discovering Secluded Paradises
After a leisurely hour at Brewers Bay, we embarked on a journey to Neltjeberg Beach. The drive itself was an adventure, navigating through switchbacks that only a Jeep could conquer. As we descended, the beach unfolded like a scene from a movie—untouched and breathtakingly beautiful. The tranquility of Neltjeberg was captivating, and I found myself lost in the rhythm of the waves, a familiar melody that always feels like home.
We spent most of our time here, soaking in the sun and the solitude. It was one of those rare moments where time seemed to stand still, and the world beyond the beach faded away. Reluctantly, we left Neltjeberg, but not without a promise to return.
Sipping on Views and Memories
Our journey back to the ship was punctuated by a stop at the mountaintop for the famous banana daiquiris. The drink was as refreshing as the views were stunning. From this vantage point, the island stretched out in all its glory, a patchwork of lush greenery and azure waters.
As we continued our descent, Scott made sure to stop at various overlooks, each offering a unique perspective of the island. Our final stop was a viewpoint overlooking the port, where Scott pointed out notable landmarks, weaving stories of the island’s rich history.
The tour lasted around five hours, but the memories will linger far longer. Scott’s passion for the island was infectious, and his knowledge added depth to the breathtaking sights. For anyone looking to explore St. Thomas beyond the usual tourist trails, this Jeep tour is an adventure not to be missed.
