Borderline unfriendly - The guide clearly wanted compliance and control from the outset, which makes some sense because there are city ordinances and a responsibility for safety of customers, but he overdid it. I felt like a 2nd-grader being escorted across the street. We didn’t need to hold hands in the group but we damn sure had to line up in a single file with our backs to whatever wall or fence at which we were stopped. There was a firehose-like presentation of facts that was stiff and dry, punctuated by often cynical jokes that weren’t cute or helpful.

Take the walking tour - Charleston is a beautiful, historic, fascinating city. Definitely recommend a walking tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She knows Charleston! She hit the highlights and showed us some secret gems which was great. Her presentation was too rote and with too much forced humor for our liking.
