- Elafonissi Beach - Elafonissi Beach, renowned for its Pink Coral Sand, is celebrated globally according to top travel guides. The beach appears to split into two parts by water, giving the illusion of a separate island. Elafonissi is a protected area under the “Natura 2000” network. The island features dunes with sand lilies and junipers (similar to cedar trees). It serves as a nesting ground for the endangered Caretta-Caretta turtles and other rare species, and removing any plants or animals from the area is strictly prohibited. The beach boasts exotic white sand and turquoise waters reminiscent of the Caribbean, with pinkish hues in many areas due to crushed shells.
Near the peninsula’s “breaking” point, the water is shallow, not exceeding 1 meter, creating a small lagoon perfect for children. The eastern side of the beach, in front of the lagoon, is well-organized and the most popular.

Highly recommended tour to Elafonisi Beach from Chania - I was picked up on time. Our driver and guide were great, I think their names were Marcos and Elena. We first stopped at a shop near Kissamos where they sell local products like honey and olive oil. In the morning and almost the entire bus ride it was raining but by the time we got to Elafonisi it was beautiful summer weather and I had a lot of fun swimming in the sea on October 21st. After that we went to a beautiful restaurant in Elos village, where they had reasonable prices and good food and then we were dropped off at our pickup location. I'd say the time we spent at each stop was just perfect. Highly recommended!

Recommend! - This was a great tour! Ample time (4 hours) at the beach and we arrived early enough before the afternoon rush and got to claim sunbeds and umbrellas. Really enjoyed detours at Elos, where we ate delicious local food, and Agia Sophia where we saw impressive stalactites and the gorges from high up. Great introduction to western Crete through this!

It was nice to be picked... - It was nice to be picked up by a guide and a small tour bus. We didn’t have to worry about driving the narrow windy roads through the mountains.. The stop was perfect for a bathroom and refreshment break on the way to the beach and the lunch break after the beach was perfect. The beach was so beautiful with soft sand and nice warm and shallow water. Too bad we didn’t see much pink sand. We arrived about 10 min before crowds of people came so we were able to rent two sun beds and umbrella. It would’ve been too hot if they weren’t available.
Really enjoyed the beach. Thought it was much nicer than Balos beach

Breathtaking Pink Sand Beach - Wonderful tour guide, Carolina, and exceptional bus driver. Amazing how we navigated to such a beautiful pink beach over the mountainous terrain. Definitely recommend this tour. Delicious food in Elos on the way back too.

Great guide, good bus. Elafonissi and Elos always deliver. - Guiden had good information all the way, and rotated elegantly between English, German, Rwandan and Polish, without it being felt messy. Clear messages about meeting place and departure. The new parking system at Elafonissi makes the trip downstairs tough for sick knees. But it's beautiful. Lunch stops in taverns in Elos is an experience in itself.

The ease of the tour.. - Our guide was excellent and the driver was skilled. The restaurant we stopped at was good and our guide was hands down knowledgeable and well spoken. The only downfall (and why Thai trip did not get 5 stars) was that we were expecting a pink beach but were surprised when there was not any pink. Apparently it would have been if we went in May but since we were there after the touristy time, the coral from the south that influences the “pink” of the sand was not longer. Overall, we are happy we did not rent a car and took the tour

Beautiful beach - The beach was really beautiful and we both enjoyed swimming at the ocean. Only negative thing was that the photos online about the pink sand are edited to look more beautiful than in person.

Disappointed but checked the box - The experience overall was meh. I was excited to see the pink sand and there is none. Its all brown sand. The pictures you see of the beach are big time deceiving. The place is jammed with tourists as well. The chairs sell out by 10am. Our bus broke down and we had to wait for a new one at some trinkets and honey location which wasted more time getting to the beach. If you dont bring your own chair, towel, and umbrella you are SOL. The tour guide and the bus driver were very nice at least
The stop at the town for lunch is a waste. There is nothing to see there. I feel it was just another money making opportunity on tourists. This 100% could have been half a day tour. This was a one and done experience wouldn't do it again.. if you need to go to check mark the box then fine but dont go with high expectations, there are better beaches on the island to visit.

Beautiful Beach, Disappointing Tour Experience - We booked this trip because there’s only one bus per day to Elafonissi from Chania in October, and we didn’t want to risk missing it. The beach itself was absolutely beautiful — the water crystal clear and the scenery stunning. I hadn’t expected miles of pink sand, so I wasn’t disappointed to see just a little of it. The lagoon and surrounding area are truly lovely and definitely worth visiting.
Unfortunately, the journey there and back was less enjoyable. The stops along the way felt unnecessary and clearly designed for tourists to spend money rather than to enhance the experience. Instead of visiting a cave — which I was really looking forward to — we stopped at a honey shop. When I asked the guide about this, she explained that our large coach couldn’t access the cave and that only the smaller minibuses go there. However, you don’t get to choose whether you’re placed on a coach or a minibus, and this wasn’t mentioned anywhere before booking. I only found out when I asked on the day, which was quite disappointing. This should be made clear in the tour description, as I would have chosen differently had I known. More time on the beach would have been far better than this commercial stop.
The return journey was similar. I expected to see a traditional mountain village, Elos, but there was very little there apart from a few tavernas. Having already eaten at the beach, I didn’t want to stop for food. When I tried to walk around, I was saddened to see many stray cats, including kittens, being shooed away from the tavernas. It was heartbreaking to see, especially as I already support an animal rescue centre near Heraklion after previous holidays in Crete. The sight of so many neglected animals really spoiled what had been a lovely day at the beach.
On a positive note, our driver, Nikos, was excellent — very skilled and confident on the narrow mountain roads — and our guide, Elena, was knowledgeable, though she could have delivered her commentary a little more concisely.
Overall, I highly recommend visiting Elafonissi Beach — it’s a truly beautiful place — but I wouldn’t suggest doing it through this particular tour.
