Van to Besisahar then Jeep to Koto Village 2600m
Chame - Depart from Kathmandu early in the morning to arrive in Koto by early evening. The journey out of the Kathmandu Valley follows the Trisuli River, where you might spot people enjoying white water rafting. There are numerous excellent coffee and lunch stops along the way. The road heads towards Pokhara, and we follow this well-maintained road until turning off at Besisahar to enter the Marshyangdi valley, with its more winding mountain roads. Upon reaching Besisahar, we transfer to a small local jeep to reach our final destination for the night, arriving at the teahouse (trekking lodge) in Koto for an overnight stay.
Koto to Meta 3560m
Manang - Today, we enter the restricted area of Nar Fu Trekking in the Annapurna Region, passing a check post to do so. The trail leads us through pine forests, along the Soti Khola (river), and over rocky terrain. Caves and canyons are visible along the way. We pause for lunch, likely at Odar/Dharmasala village, before reaching Meta, where we spend the night. The skyline is filled with views of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. Overnight stay at the Himalayan Shangri-la.
Meta to Kyang 3720m
Manang - Enjoy an easy day and a half of acclimatization in the Himalayan Shangri-La. Start the day with a Himalayan breakfast, then set off on a gentle hike to Chyaku Village, a traditional Tibetan settlement visible as ruins. Stop here for lunch, then continue the hike to Kyang village, a charming small village in a remote area. Overnight stay at Kyang.
Kyang to Phu 4,250 m
Manang - A day full of cultural wonders awaits. The trail leads us past beautiful Buddhist chortens and Khani (cairns/shrines) with views of spectacular gorges, canyons, and ruins of Tibetan-style forts. After crossing a suspension bridge, we arrive at Phu Village, one of the most beautiful Tibetan villages in Nepal. In the afternoon, we can visit the Tashi Lhakhang monastery.
Acclimatization Day Phu 4,250 m
Phu to Nar Phedi 3,490m
Trek from Nar Fedi to Beautiful Nar village 4,110 m
Manang - Today, we take a short hike to the beautiful Nar village. After lunch, explore Nar, a farming village nestled in a bowl-like valley. Known as the ‘place of blue sheep,’ the locals speak a Sino-Tibetan language, distinct from the rest of Manang.
Nar to Ngawal Via Kang La Pass (5,320m)
Manang - A challenging day of trekking, but the views make it worthwhile! From the top of the Kang La Pass, we are rewarded with stunning vistas of Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak. Finally, we reach Ngawal, where Wi-Fi is available to share stories back home. Overnight stay at Ngawal 3680m.
Ngawal to Chame 2740 m
Chame - Today, our bodies appreciate the downhill trekking, with less steep trails and plenty of descents towards Chame Bazaar, the headquarters of the entire Manang district. Along the way, we pass through beautiful villages like Humde, which has a small remote airstrip, and villages like Pissang, Dhukur Pokhari, and Bhartang, where there is a brewery offering apple wine and juice from one of Nepal’s largest apple farms.
Drive to Besisahar then Drive back to Kathmandu
Kathmandu - After breakfast, we embark on a jeep for an off-road journey towards Besisahar on a bumpy road, then transfer to another bus or van towards Kathmandu, where we stay overnight in the culturally rich city.
