- Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark - Spanning 8.5 hectares, this park is an essential destination for exploring the beauty of the island. It seamlessly blends geology, education, and conservation, offering visitors a chance to connect with nature and gain insights into the Mauritian landscape.
Visitors can marvel at the Seven Colours of the Earth, witness the breathtaking Chamarel waterfall, and enjoy the calming presence of majestic giant turtles. Additionally, there is a shop featuring local products and a restaurant providing snacks and refreshments throughout the day.
- Chamarel Waterfalls - As the tallest single-drop waterfall in Mauritius, standing at approximately 100 meters, the Chamarel Waterfall is a stunning natural wonder set amidst lush vegetation. It is nourished by three separate streams that flow into the Saint Denis River, creating a powerful cascade with a peak flow rate exceeding 40,000 m³ per minute.
The waterfall cascades over a basalt cliff into an oval pool, then continues through a 6km canyon bordered by tropical forest to Baie du Cap. This awe-inspiring sight not only refreshes the senses but also serves as a remarkable display of millions of years of volcanic activity. The dramatic landscape is shaped by lava flows from two distinct periods. The lower layer of brecciated basalt dates back 10 to 8 million years, topped by a second layer from the intermediate period between 3.5 and 1.7 million years ago.
