Worth the 12KM trek with beautiful views of the falls all along the way - We started our walk in the small village of Cocachimba. You stop in the small office, sign in and pay the park fee and off you go on a very well marked trail. We trekked through the breathtaking cloud forest to Gocta Waterfall, where our eyes feasted on a 2,531-foot double-drop waterfall plunging into an icy pool of inky water. The hike in was so beautiful and was both up and down hill, definitely let me know that I need to get into better shape! I went slow and steady and was rewarded by standing in front of quite an amazing waterfall. I decided to take a dip in the pool, it was FREEZING cold. Not kidding, the springs I swim in at home are a nice chilly 72F (22C) year round, this waster was much much colder. So cold that I was having deep agonizing breaths and couldn't speak as I carefully exited along the rocks slowly. It was worth it to say that I made the trek and took the plunge! On they way in, be on the lookout for a home that is selling coconut water, very nice. Also they rent horses to go most of the way in and out, however the woman that is leading the horse is in her 70's or 80's so I was way to embarrassed to take my 4osomething year old self up there! On the way back down, stop by Gocta Lodge for a nice meal and a cold Amazonas beer and gaze at Gocta from afar.
