- Katavothres - The Argostoli sinks are often regarded as a “mystery” by many in Kefalonia. Located at the edge of the Argostoli Peninsula, the sea flows into the land through sinkholes. This phenomenon has puzzled scientists for years. In 1963, geologists Viktor Maurin and Josef Zötl from the University of Graz poured 160 kilograms of paint into one of the sinks. Two weeks later, traces of the paint appeared in springs on the opposite side of the island, 14 km away, as well as in the Melissani lake cave. These sinks are essentially karstic gaps that drain the waters of rivers flowing into the polga. Interestingly, the Argostoli sinks are a network of crevices situated below sea level, continuously receiving seawater with force, resembling a coastal abyss with a constant influx of seawater. Many scientists suggest that fresh water descends underground from Ainos, with an estimated 1,000 cubic meters disappearing every 24 hours.
- Kourkoumelata - Kourkoumelata is renowned as one of the most beautiful, elegant, picturesque, and impressive villages in Kefalonia. A unique aspect of the village is the diverse architectural designs of the houses, which are not aligned with the road but adhere to excellent road planning principles. Despite the charm and elegance of the buildings, the true highlight of Kourkoumelata is the vibrant gardens, meticulously maintained by the villagers. Even the communal areas are remarkable, with lush lawns and towering palm trees dominating the main square.
- St George’s Castle - The Castle of Agios Georgios is perched on a hill 7 km from Argostoli, overlooking the southern part of Kefalonia and the bay of Argostoli. Construction of the castle began during the Frankish occupation and was expanded during the Venetian rule, gaining strategic importance. It served as the administrative center of Kefalonia for many years until the capital moved to Argostoli in the 18th century. Despite earthquake damage and the passage of time, the Castle of Agios Georgios remains impressive today, exemplifying Venetian fortification art.
- Sami - In Sami, the lush greenery meets the white sands and the blue sea, creating breathtaking landscapes reminiscent of the movie “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin,” which was filmed in Sami and its nearby beaches.
- Drapano Bridge (De Bosset) - On the return to the port, there is an opportunity for a brief stop at De Bosset Bridge in Argostoli. This bridge is the largest stone bridge over a seawater body, existing since 1813. Recently renovated, it offers a magnificent view of the capital from afar and the Koutavos lagoon, delighting both locals and visitors.
