The first destination is the National Theater, which opened its doors in 1909 and is regarded as one of the nation’s most esteemed theaters. Also known as the Municipal Theater, it has been a stage for celebrated artists in music, dance, and opera, and continues to uphold its artistic autonomy with its own choir, symphony orchestra, and ballet company.
Following this, the tour proceeds to the National Library, established in 1810 by King João VI. As the largest library in Latin America, it boasts a collection of approximately 9 million items, including rare books, maps, manuscripts, and documents that safeguard Brazil’s cultural heritage. By law, a copy of every book published in Brazil is required to be stored there.
