Established in 1810, the library originated from the relocation of the Royal Portuguese Library to Brazil, amassing rare works, historical documents, and unique treasures. Its grand building, opened in 1910, is impressive with its neoclassical architecture and interior adorned with marble, stained-glass windows, sculptures, and majestic reading rooms.
  Inside, visitors can explore collections that include ancient maps, manuscripts, rare books, newspapers, photographs, and works that narrate the cultural history of the nation. The tour begins with a pickup from the hotel for an enriching 4-hour journey to explore two of Brazil’s most significant cultural landmarks: the National Theater and the National Library. Situated in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, these sites captivate visitors with their majestic architecture, intricate interiors, and historical importance.

The first destination is the National Theater, which opened its doors in 1909 and is regarded as one of the nation’s most esteemed theaters. Also known as the Municipal Theater, it has been a stage for celebrated artists in music, dance, and opera, and continues to uphold its artistic autonomy with its own choir, symphony orchestra, and ballet company.

Following this, the tour proceeds to the National Library, established in 1810 by King João VI. As the largest library in Latin America, it boasts a collection of approximately 9 million items, including rare books, maps, manuscripts, and documents that safeguard Brazil’s cultural heritage. By law, a copy of every book published in Brazil is required to be stored there.
