Just a 20-minute drive from the heart of Athens takes visitors to Ymittos Mountain, a protected NATURA 2000 nature reserve. This area is perfect for hikers, mountain runners, and those interested in Byzantine history. With the guidance of experienced Trekking Hellas Athens guides, participants can explore this Mediterranean forest, which is adapted to the unique climate of summer droughts and cool, moist winters. Discover nature, wildlife, historic monasteries, and one of the few remaining medieval sites in Athens.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore two of the oldest Byzantine monasteries, one of which is still active, and learn about the monks’ agricultural practices while passing by the ancient olive grove.
Choose from one of the excellent picnic spots around the monastery for a break, or stop at the site known as Kalopoula for a snack and refreshments in the woods.

Amazing Experience, Highly Recommend!!! - I came to Greece solo before heading to a wedding in Albania and knew I wanted to fit hiking into my 4 day trip to Athens. I found Trekking Hellas and went to the office to ask about what hikes were available the following day. I was greeted my Yiannis, who was super friendly and helpful. The next morning I met Yiannis and we headed for the trail - 10/10 would recommend this to anyone looking to get out of the city and experience Athens from a different angle. Throughout the hike Yiannis was super informative - he told me about the wildlife, vegetation, history, and kept the conversation going the entire hike. If you are looking for a hike or any different excursion in Athens definitely check out Trekking Hellas!
