Fes - After breakfast, embark on a cultural tour of Fes, the intellectual capital of Morocco, once considered the “Mecca of the West” and “Athena of Africa.” It is the country’s second-largest city after Casablanca, with a population of approximately 1 million. Fes, a former capital and one of Morocco’s four imperial cities, consists of three distinct parts: Fes el Bali, the oldest section surrounded by a large wall with over 9,000 narrow streets and alleys; Fes-Jdid, or New Fes, home to the Mellah, the Jewish quarter; and Ville Nouvelle, the newest section created during the French occupation. Fes el Bali is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the world’s largest medina.
