Highlights
  • Carrickfergus Castle - Heading north on the M1 from Dublin, we take the Mourne coast road. To your right lies the Irish Sea, and to your left, the magnificent Mourne mountains.

Our first stop is the port of Carrickfergus. Alongside its renowned castle, Carrickfergus is rich in history. Take a tour of the castle and learn about the numerous wars it has witnessed.

In 1778, during the American War of Independence, Captain John Paul Jones attempted and failed to seize the port due to the castle’s formidable defenses. Discover how he returned days later aboard his ship, the “Ranger,” and challenged the British flagship “HMS Drake” to a battle, which Captain Jones won decisively.

From Carrickfergus, we continue further north to the causeway itself. Along the way, you’ll witness the dramatic coastline of East Ulster, shaped over the years by the relentless force of the Irish Sea.

  • Giant’s Causeway - Upon reaching the Causeway (The 8th Wonder of the World), you’ll be amazed by nature’s marvels. Observe the perfectly formed hexagonal rock pillars standing side by side, reaching heights of 40 feet, and the stunning lava cliffs rising dramatically from the sea. Hear the tales of the giants Fionn McCool of Ireland and Benandonner of Scotland, their numerous encounters, and how they used the causeway as stepping stones to battle each other.
  • Bushmills Distillery - (The Bushmills Distillery is temporarily closed until the end of 2021) In the small village of Bushmills, nestled on the riverbanks, you’ll find the oldest working distillery in Ireland. This is a place where family and friends have worked for generations, in a small Northern Irish village that has adhered to the philosophy of handcrafting small batches to produce beautifully smooth-tasting Irish whiskey for over 400 years.
  • Dunluce Castle - The iconic ruins of Dunluce Castle stand as a testament to a long and tumultuous history. Initially constructed on the dramatic coastal cliffs of north County Antrim by the MacQuillan family around 1500, the earliest written record of the castle dates back to 1513.
  • Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge - Connected to the cliffs by a rope bridge across the Atlantic Ocean, Carrick-a-Rede Island hosts a single building - a fisherman’s cottage.

Suspended almost 100 ft (30 m) above sea level, the rope bridge was first erected by salmon fishermen 350 years ago.

  • The Dark Hedges - On our return to Dublin, we will pass by the most photographed location in Northern Ireland - The Dark Hedges. Even the wildly popular Game of Thrones has filmed a scene on this eerily beautiful road…

Giant causeway/Rope bridge - Our driver Kieran was very professional and met all of our needs. There were 6 family members in our party and we were picked up in a new Mercedes van. The Causeway and Rope Bridge were very worthwhile. Kieran also took us into to Belfast and to see Dunluce Castle. We did not feel rushed at any of the stops. It was a very enjoyable trip.

Fantastic tour of Northern Ireland - William was absolutely wonderful. At the last minute my friend had to cancel and William just took the whole thing in stride. He is extremely knowledgeable and informative and very flexible about making our stops fit what I wanted to see…not just conforming to some rigid route. I can’t say enough good things about this day…so worth it!!!

A must see while visiting Ireland! - It is a long drive from Dublin but definitely worth seeing. The car was extremely comfortable and the driver, William, was knowledgeable and patient. We stopped and had lunch in Belfast and although the cab around the city tour was recommended, we decided to pass on it.

The best tour! The only way to travel! - What a perfect day- Paul, our private driver, was so professional, and full of information and great ideas, and his luxury van was comfortable and clean! When both the Bushmills distillery and the rope bridge were still closed due to covid, he offered wonderful alternatives and gave perfect food recommendations, too!
