Gareth, your guide, is a fluent Welsh speaker who will provide insights into Wales that you wouldn’t get with a standard tour operator.
South Wales is the most populated region of Wales and is renowned worldwide. This area features Neolithic sites, Roman ruins, stunning waterfalls, imposing Norman castles, industrial heritage, dramatic mountain landscapes, and beaches that are ranked among the best in the world. The Wandering Bard offers two options: a Valleys tour, showcasing some of Wales’s most famous ancient wonders, or the Swansea Bay tour, highlighting some of Britain’s most beautiful coastlines. Both tours are fantastic experiences and have received excellent feedback from 99% of customers. Please confirm which tour you have booked.
- Children must be accompanied by an adult
- A maximum of 8 people per booking
- Customers need to be aware that there are two tours available. There is the Valleys option calling at Tintern Abbey, Chepstow Castle and Caerphilly Castle and there is the Swansea Bay option calling at Rhossili Bay, Mumbles, Neath Abbey and Melin Court waterfall. Gareth is the only guide so only one of these trips goes ahead per day. Please check your booking to see which trip you have booked. They are both the Wandering Bard’s tour but one goes to Swansea Bay whereas the other goes inland to the Valleys. This has caused confusion with customers in the past.

Gareth was very nice and... - Gareth was very nice and friendly and gave us a lot of information about the history of Wales and the UK as a whole.

Wonderful Day Out - What a great day out. Gareth was so interesting and cheerful! He took us to off the beaten path places and gave us a great overview of this wonderful part of the world. And of course his perfect Welsh accent only added to the experience.

Highly Recommend! - The Valleys Tour made for an incredible day with an eventful schedule, simple logistics, and fascinating history. The baseline schedule included three different sites to stop at, but Gareth was able to work in two extra sites to stop at (after checking that the group was all on board for it). I really appreciated not having to sort out transportation logistics for this experience; this tour made an action-packed day so, so simple. It would be very difficult to replicate this day unless you have a vehicle and are well versed in driving through the area. I highly recommend booking this tour if you’re wanting to explore some of the historic sites South Wales has to offer!

Fun day at the castles - Gareth was great - lots of good information, excellent choices of places to stop. He recommended that we buy a ticket for access to all castles which turned out to be a good move. It was an enjoyable day, despite a little drizzle.

Enjoyable - We travelled in a group of 8 in a van. We started the tour early in the morning and visited 5 places and finished in time. Garrath, our amazing driver and guide, was thorough and detailed about the history of each place we visited. It was interesting to find his depth over history and different languages making it easy for all the tourists coming from different parts of the world. The time allocated for each place was adequate to visit them, have a look around, click photos, or grab a coffee. Fortunately it was a sunny and super enjoyable. Highly recommended for solo, friends or family groups.

Amazing Experience - Great for a Solo Traveler! - Gareth is very attentive, helpful and is truly committed to making his tours a great experience. He’s passionate about Welsh history and culture and wants to impart that to his tour guests. You will learn a lot which helps to enhance your experience in Wales. I took the Welsh Valleys tour as a solo traveler, and Gareth went out of his way to accommodate me and make the tour a comfortable and easy experience. I was absolutely blown away by the beauty of the Wye Valley, and Gareth took us to all the gorgeous sites in the area—Monnow Bridge, Tintern Abbey, Chepstow Castle, Castell Coch and Caerphilly Castle. All stunning Welsh sites, and Gareth gives history and background about them all. There is time to stop for snacks, lunch and bathroom breaks, and Gareth gives recommendations in each area. There is a lot of walking on this tour, so be mindful that there may be mud or rain along the way, but it’s so worth it to see these incredible sites. Gareth makes it enjoyable and easy, and for the price (which is unbelievably reasonable), it’s worth every cent. Take a tour with The Wandering Bard tours, especially as a solo traveler (you will be looked after). You will not regret it!

The best of Wales - The idea of organizing a full day around castles and abbeys is something I have been looking for, and I definitely didn’t regret it. There is so much to see! Can’t recommend it enough! Our driver, Gareth, was kind and very knowledgeable, which made the experience even better. A great way to explore Wales in a day. Cadw’s Explorer Pass offers great value for castle entry

Informative Valley Tour - Great day trip visiting castles in the Wandering Bard's valley tour. Our guide, Gareth, was knowledgeable and thoughtful and provided us with relevant background on each stop as well as answering a variety of unrelated questions about Wales and the UK. The time went by quickly without feeling rushed.
