Top excursion tip in Natal - We booked the buggy tour just 12 hours before we arrived in Natal. Everything went perfectly, we were picked up right at the port on time. It was a really great tour with lots of great stops. The driver was very motivated and drove us safely and reliably for the almost 6-hour tour.

North coast and Pratagi River. Good experience, but expendable - We took the buggy tour with Mr. LuÃs, a 1996 and a 2013 buggy, orange and with internal seats, at a cost of R$450.00 per buggy.
The tour started at the hotel door in Ponta Negra. You can choose to start the tour in Genipabu.
The promise is to visit 10 beaches, but the buggy actually stops for swimming only at one beach, at lunch time. The first stop is at the Genipabu lagoon, where tourists choose to ride a dromedary (a ride costs R$150.00) and take a photo on top of the donkey. We passed quickly, as we really wanted to see the natural beauty.
We were disappointed by the disorderly urbanization in Genipapu. Houses and shacks invade the dunes, many of them shaken by the rise of the tide. Open sewage and low investment in infrastructure. It's a shame, because the place had potential due to its natural beauty. Genipabu beach is unsuitable for swimming and is not very popular.
We chose to stop the buggy where the sea meets the Pratagi River, where a small lagoon formed. It was great for swimming, and also. There are improvised stalls that provide good appetizers and cold drinks to visitors. Only arrive at the location by buggy.
There was also the option of stopping at the Pitangui lagoon, but the buggy driver told us that it is unsuitable for swimming, as it is still water. Furthermore, it is a private property that the owner has fenced off and is charging R$25.00 to swim. Believe me, private property in the middle of a dune only happens in Brazil and in poor countries.
Moving on, there are two options for lunch. One buffet restaurant and one a la carte. We opted for the buffet, at a cost of R$90.00 per person. Despite the options (including barbecue), it was not a pleasant experience, as the food was clearly reheated. Of course, this is the personal opinion of this subscriber. My mother and wife decided not to have lunch, but I still paid for both of their buffets.
The tide rises quickly, so to return along the beach you need to leave by 2pm, otherwise you will have to return via the highway.
