Excellent All-Day Wine Tour - We had a great wine tour of Stellenbosch with Julian and Althea. Julian picked us up at our hotel and then we went to pick up the remaining guests on the tour and headed out on the quick drive to Stellenbosch. At the first winery, Simonsig, Julian explained how to use a sword to open a bottle of sparkling wine, and then Althea gave a tour of the facilities, followed by a tasting. We then went to Mitre's Edge, where the owner gave us a tasting of her family's wines. Julian then drove us to Middelvlei for lunch and more wines, and then to Delheim for the final tasting. By then, we were well and truly experienced in South African wines. Julian safely got us back to everyone's hotels in Cape Town, capping off a wonderful experience with evening rush hour traffic. Julian is a great guide who provided useful insight into the history of South African wine, the Stellenbosch area, and Cape Town itself. Really glad we chose this tour! Four wineries really took up a whole day and was plenty.

Fantastic Day with Wine Flies - Wonderful day touring the Stellenbosch area and visiting multiple vineyards. Julian, our guide, was fantastic! He made the day so fun, and provided us with so much information about wine, the vineyards, and South Africa in general. The tour was well organized and ran very smoothly. I could not recommend Julia or Wine Flies enough!

Great tour. Excellent wines. Really fun! - Great experience! My wife and I live in California, near San Francisco, so we are pretty close to the Napa valley and several other wine regions. Not that we are accomplished "enophiles," but we have toured numerous wine regions and have done a fair bit of wine tasting.
That said, we found the day-long tour with Wine Flies, and in particular with our tour guide Yaz, to be great fun, scenically spectacular and rewarding in terms of the wines.
Eight of us were in a very comfortable van with Yaz. As we drove between wineries (I guess in South Africa they are "wine farms"), he provided just the right amount of contextual commentary about the geography, history and culture of the areas we were traveling through. And, even though I'd guess that Yaz is 10 years younger than the average of our group, he is totally hip to all of the popular music we all grew up with and he adjusted his playlist on the fly per group requests. We knew a lot of the words but I think that Yaz knew ALL of the words!
We visited 4 wineries, each tasting 5 wines, with generous pours. All of the wines were very nice, but for us the standout tasting experience was at Mitre's Edge, a boutique winery in the Stellenbosch area. The tasting was hosted by the owner / winemaker, and included one or two nice whites and three or four excellent reds, along with a paring that had chocolates, and different cheeses. I've always felt that the whole "pairing" thing was just a little too frou-frou, but this was PERFECT! Every "bite" tasted like just the perfect thing to go with the particular wine.
We ended up purchasing a couple of bottles of red--would have bought much more if we knew how to get it back to California without paying huge shipping charges. I did get the winemaker's contact info so we can stay in contact to see if they ever export to California.
Wine Flies, Yaz and Mitre's edge are all highly recommended!

Partners in Wine - Our driver Yes was super cool and friendly. The landscape, the farms couldn't be more beuatiful. The wines were really good. I had to drink all the glasses and I couldn't spare not even a drop of wine. At the end of the day I was a little bit tipsy 🤣. Our driver wanted us to sing and have fun all the way back to our accommodations. Thanks

Excellent - This was excellent trip, with the day well organized , and our guide Julian excellent. Pick up was on time, and communication before the trip from Renee very prompt. Julian is a vibrant fun personality, who gave us plenty of information on the area and the wines. We were a group of 6 out of the tour of 9, and the other 3 visitors were lovely.
We visited Simonsig, Mitre's Edge, Delheim, and one other whose name I do not recall. At Simonsig we got to open a bottle of bubbly with a sword, and got biltong with the wine tastings. At Mitre's edge the wine tastings were paired with chocolate and cheese. The in-house host at Delheim discerned each persons taste after the first two tastings, and then gave them wine they liked which was appreciated. We had lunch at the one whose name I do not recall.
What I may change: Firstly, we did not realize our hotel was outside listed pick up circle, we did not have prior knowledge of the area. Therefore had to come to a meeting point. Secondly we did this trip during winter, the vines had no leaves or fruit, would love to it again in summer. Thirdly, now that I have done the above trip, I would do the second one more paced out and deliberate with the same folks.
