Table Mountain Aerial Cableway - This hike is named after the ravine’s shape, nestled between two prominent rock buttresses, providing one of the finest viewpoints. The trail begins behind the lower cableway station, ascending directly up Table Mountain until it reaches the contour path. From this point, the route gently climbs a gully on a buttress called Venster Buttress and curves left beneath a striking rock amphitheater.
As the eastern end of this amphitheater is approached, the trail becomes steeper with some easy scrambling—stay attentive, as the most thrilling part is yet to come. Staples and chains have been installed along the path, enhancing accessibility and safety.
Beyond this section, the path levels out toward “The Ledge” and around the corner, where a refreshing breeze often welcomes you—an excellent spot to enjoy views over Camps Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. As the next corner is rounded, towering cliffs rise above as the trail continues southeast, climbing steeply to a higher ledge beneath massive overhangs. It then turns away from the sea into a shaded ravine, often cool and breezy in the morning.
From this point, the summit is just 10 minutes away—congratulations!

Hiking Table Mountain, one of Africa’s most iconic peaks and a member of the New7Wonders of Nature, offers a truly unparalleled experience. It is part of a unique floral kingdom found only in the southwestern Cape, known as Fynbos. This is the smallest yet most diverse of the world’s six floral kingdoms, boasting an incredible variety of proteas, ericas, and restios.
Adding to the mountain’s uniqueness is the rare Table Mountain ghost frog, a species found nowhere else in the world. The mountain is also home to the Himalayan tahr—wild mountain goats originally from Northern India, Southern Tibet, China, and Nepal, which contribute to the mountain’s distinctive character.
