Proceed to Stony Point Nature Reserve, located in the charming coastal town of Betty’s Bay in the Overberg. This reserve is home to a unique colony of African penguins. Observe these flightless birds up close via the boardwalk through the colony in their natural habitat without disturbing them.
Within the nature reserve, you’ll find three species of cormorants: the crowned cormorant, cape cormorant, and black cormorant, all of which breed on the outer rocks.
The rock hyrax, commonly known as the Dassie, along with Hartlaub Gulls and Kelp Gulls, are also found in the nature reserve.
- Kogelberg Nature Reserve - The bay is named after Rear-Admiral Thomas Pringle of the Royal Navy, who commanded the naval station at the Cape in the late 1970s.
In Afrikaans, Pringlebaai is a small coastal town with an estimated population of just over 1,600 residents in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. It is situated at the foot of Hangklip, overlooking False Bay from Cape Point, and is a UNESCO Heritage site (the town and surroundings are part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve).
Pringle Bay is located between Betty’s Bay and Gordon’s Bay, and most of the houses within this small community are used as holiday homes by their owners.

This is undoubtedly one of the most scenic drives in South Africa and is well worth the effort. If you enjoy roads with many curves, this one is for you, as it features 77 curves and corners, with four exceeding 150 degrees.
The road surface is in excellent condition, attracting tourists, locals, bikers, and cyclists in large numbers.
A word of caution: please adhere to the speed limit, as overtaking is limited. Be cautious to avoid accidents while driving and admiring the strikingly impressive scenery.
At the end of R44, join the N2 and head back to Cape Town.
