- Stony Point Penguin Colony - The journey continues along the N2 towards Stony Point, where there is an incredible opportunity to observe African Penguins up close. This location is home to one of Africa’s largest penguin colonies.
Stony Point Penguin Colony is renowned as one of the world’s most successful breeding sites for African Penguins.
Situated in the charming coastal town of Betty’s Bay in the Overberg, the Stony Point Nature Reserve hosts a unique colony of African Penguins. Visitors can enjoy a close view of these delightful flightless birds via the boardwalk through the colony, allowing them to watch the penguins in their natural habitat without causing any disturbance.
- Hamilton Russell Vineyards - Next, the tour proceeds towards Hermanus for a wine tasting at one of the estates in the Hemel-en-Aarde wine region.
Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate, one of the southernmost wine estates in Africa and closest to the sea, pioneered viticulture and winemaking in the beautiful, cool, maritime Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation, just behind the historic fishing village of Hermanus.
- Hermanus - The tour then heads to the delightful town of Hermanus for a lunch break (at your own expense) and leisurely exploration. Visitors can choose to stroll through the town or along the seaside. During whale season, whale-watching is also an option.
Originally a farming community, Hermanus has transformed into a vibrant holiday destination. Located on the scenic Walker Bay, this sun-drenched town offers a wide range of attractions. From the spectacle of whales and Great White Sharks to the unmatched beauty of the world’s most diverse Floral Kingdom, Hermanus features mountain trails, pristine beaches, tranquil forests, and enchanting lagoons. Not to mention the hidden valley so beautiful it’s called ‘Heaven and Earth’. Gearings Point showcases captivating public art and sculptures, enhancing the artistic charm of the town’s numerous galleries along the art walk route.
- Cape Agulhas - Southernmost Tip of Africa - After lunch, the tour proceeds to Cape Agulhas, where visitors can walk the pathway leading to the official meeting point of the two oceans (Indian and Atlantic oceans) and capture some memorable photos.
- Cape Agulhas Lighthouse - Following this, the tour visits the Agulhas lighthouse, a famous South African landmark and one of the oldest in the country. Located at the southernmost tip of Africa, it offers a fascinating insight into maritime history.
A lighthouse at Cape Agulhas was proposed by Colonel Charles Collier Michell, the Surveyor-General of the Cape, in March 1837. A public meeting in Cape Town on 11 July 1840 resolved to raise funds for its construction, and Michiel van Breda, the founder of Bredasdorp, offered to donate the land for its construction.
- Caledon - After exploring the Agulhas National Park, the tour returns to Cape Town city for a drop-off at your accommodation at approximately 18:00 pm.
Caledon is renowned for its hot springs, discovered by the early Khoi-Khoi people before Europeans attributed healing properties to the iron-rich waters and opened a sick house and later a sanatorium, which was destroyed by fire. The seven springs, one of which is cold and the other six thermal, are warmed by contact with rocks heated by pressure deep underground to a steady temperature of 49.5° Celsius. Interestingly, the waters of Caledon are also free of any organic matter and were awarded first prize as the world’s top quality mineral waters at the Chicago World Fair in 1893.
- Cape Town Central - Upon returning to Cape Town, the tour ensures a safe drop-off at your hotel, concluding a delightful day tour.
