A well organised and memorable trip to see the Big 5 see the z - This was my first Safari experience and met all expectations. We were picked up from our flat by the Very polite and courteous driver from Raw Tours. Along the route we were given a detailed historical perspective into Capetown and South Africa by our tour guide Remy. Our first stop was a very enjoyable full breakfast before proceeding to the Safari. The tour guide was very detailed in his descriptions and it was a thrilling experience to see the giraffes, lions, elephants etc. The tour also included a full lunch which we enjoyed. This tour company must be credited for a job well done.

Exceeded expectations:A Safari to remember - Our Big 5 safari tour was an unforgettable experience, despite not seeing all of the Big Five in the wild. The knowledgeable and passionate guides made the trip engaging, and a highlight was visiting the lions in their protected area, where we learned about their behaviour and conservation. The scenery was stunning, the drives comfortable, and the staff exceptionally accommodating. Although a few animals were missed in the wild we managed to se the lions overall experience exceeded expectations. Highly recommended.

Cannot recommend - We cannot recommend this tour company or Aquila. Communication & Pickup There was no confirmed pickup time provided in advance. Despite multiple attempts to contact Raw Safari, they did not answer calls or messages. Even Viator struggled to reach them. Eventually, we were contacted at 9pm the night before with instructions to be at the pickup point at 08:45 and given the driver’s (Sam) details. The next morning, after contacting Sam, the pickup time was changed again to 09:15. Transport Issues We were collected in an unstable vehicle designed for seven passengers, yet there were eight plus the driver. We were asked to squeeze in before being driven to another location to swap into a 10-seater vehicle. Initially, this transfer was going to take place on the side of a major highway, but we had to insist on moving to a safer spot. Later, we stopped at a petrol station where the driver suggested we get coffee while the vehicle was refueled. Guests asked about the included breakfast, but we were told there was no time, so none was provided. Experience at Aquila The two-hour drive brought us to Aquila, where first impressions were poor. Staff at reception could not locate our booking, and this issue persisted throughout the day, including when boarding for the safari. Aquila itself feels like a large, commercial operation focused on volume rather than quality. The safari vehicles are old and extremely uncomfortable. While the reserve is large, lions are confined to a small fenced area, and overall wildlife numbers seemed limited—just enough to tick off parts of the “Big Five.” Private vehicles are available for 3,500 ZAR, but they follow the same route as the crowded trucks. Food & Facilities The buffet lunch was average at best, and drinks—including water—must be paid for separately. Overall Impression This tour was poorly organized, uncomfortable, and disappointing. Aquila felt more like a tourist conveyor belt than a genuine safari experience. Having visited other private reserves, we can confidently say there are far better options available.
