Waterton Glacier International Peace Park is celebrated for its stunning wildflowers and is affectionately referred to as the “wildflower capital of Canada.” The best time to witness the diverse array of wildflowers in the park typically spans from late June to early August, with the peak period often noted as the beginning of the third week of June until mid-July.
The park boasts over 400 species of flowering plants. The wildflower season is truly enchanting, earning Waterton National Park the title of the Wildflower Capital of Canada!
Beargrass serves as a striking and unofficial symbol of the park, while Fireweed frequently blooms at higher elevations. In late spring, Glacier Lilies reign supreme at lower elevations. The open fields and protected areas are dominated by Silky Lupin. Along the trails, Wild Bergamot, Penstemon, and Balsam Root are commonly found. The Wildrose, Alberta’s emblem, is prevalent throughout the park. Wood lily, desert paintbrush, crimson columbine, firewheel… you name it!
