- Cameron Lake - The Activity: The journey continues with a drive past the First Oil Well in Western Canada (a National Historic Site) en route to Cameron Lake at the end of the Akamina Parkway. This tranquil lake, known for frequent moose sightings, extends into the United States at its southern tip.
Duration: ~20 mins.
Note – Alternative Option: If the group prefers to minimize time in the van, the Cameron Lake stop can be omitted to allow more time in the townsite or for a non-guided hike up the Bear’s Hump trail, which offers a spectacular view of the town and lakes from above.
- Red Rock Canyon - The Activity: The next stop is the Red Rock Parkway for a hike along the Red Rock Canyon Trail and Blakiston Falls Trail, totaling 3.2km. This area is renowned for its vibrant red and green bedrock, and the road, open only from May to October, is celebrated for its unique mountains-meet-prairies landscape, wildlife sightings, and abundant wildflowers.
Duration: 1 hour.
- Bison Paddock Loop Road - The Activity (Time & Season Permitting): Situated near the park’s north entrance, this scenic driving loop provides a rare chance to observe bison in their natural grassland habitat from the comfort of the van. As a protected area, this loop is exclusively for vehicles, ensuring a safe and respectful viewing experience.
