The aim is to reach the furthest point of the day first, allowing for an active exploration of the “Jewel of Yoho” with its vibrant colors and diverse geological features before the midday crowd arrives.
- Natural Bridge - A quick stop on Emerald Lake Road to witness the Kicking Horse River as it carves through solid rock.
- Lake Louise - The Activity: Visit the most iconic basin in the range. Stroll along the shoreline to find quieter viewpoints of the lake and surrounding peaks, providing a better view of the Victoria Glacier and the castle-like Fairmont Chateau. The lakeshore trail is an in-and-out path up to 4.6km long, with minimal elevation gain. On the way to Marble Canyon, there is an optional brief stop at Lake Louise Village.
- Marble Canyon - The Activity: A 1.8km in-and-out trail that weaves through the stunning blues of Tokumm Creek, featuring waterfalls and several footbridges over the canyon, offering views straight through the limestone edges to the creek below. It’s one of the best spots in Kootenay National Park.
- The Continental Divide Great Divide - Crossing the Continental Divide is a unique experience, as you stand on the “spine” of North America, where geography determines whether a single drop of water will flow west to the Pacific or east to the Atlantic.
- Bow Valley Parkway - The Activity: Transition to the Bow Valley Parkway for part of the journey back to Banff. This quieter and more relaxed alternative to the Trans-Canada Highway offers a different view of the valley and more frequent wildlife sightings.
Note: Certain sections may be closed seasonally for wildlife protection and to provide a vehicle-free experience for cyclists; during these times, the open sections of the parkway may not align with the rest of the itinerary.
