- Sambor Prei Kuk - After breakfast at the hotel, we depart from Siem Reap to visit Sambor Prei Kuk, the ancient city of Chenla. In the early 7th century, Sambor Prei Kuk served as the capital of the Kingdom of Chenla, a pre-Angkorian Khmer kingdom known in Chinese records as “Zhēnlà.” Built by King Isanavarman I, the site was a significant religious center dedicated to the worship of Shiva. Featuring over 100 temples, primarily constructed of brick, the temple ruins are divided into three main groups, scattered throughout the semi-cleared jungle. Discover the tranquil temples, including Prasat Yeay Peau, enveloped by ancient trees, and the elaborate lion carvings of Prasat Tao.
- Kompong Khleang - Next, we visit the stilted community of Kompong Khleang, situated on the northern edge of Tonle Sap lake, about 55km east of Siem Reap town. Accessible year-round, visitors to Kompong Khleang during the dry season are amazed by the stilted houses that rise up to 10 meters high. During the monsoon season, the waters rise to within one or two meters of the buildings. This is a permanent community where subsistence fishing is the primary livelihood. It is also one of the largest communities on Tonle Sap lake. Return to Siem Reap and drop off at the hotel.
