Many of these temples are enveloped by jungle, as the area was abandoned and only recently rediscovered.
• Preah Khan Kompong Svay - The archaeological complex of Preah Khan of Kampong Svay, also known as Prasat Bakan or Bakan Svay Rolay, is situated 100 km east of Angkor in Preah Vihear province, Cambodia. It is the largest single religious complex constructed during the Angkorian Era, with an exterior enclosure spanning over 22 km square. Despite its remote location, which makes it less frequented, Preah Khan Kompong Svay is a group of temples featuring the largest standing Buddha statue.

The Takeo version comprises two deteriorated brick towers from the 10th century, dedicated to the god Shiva.
• Koh Ker Temple - Prasat Chrap is a 10th-century Khmer temple complex in Koh Ker, Cambodia, featuring three large, partially ruined laterite towers aligned in a row within a laterite enclosure wall. It also includes two smaller brick structures, possibly libraries or earlier shrines, situated opposite the main towers.

These temples, often found at sites like Koh Ker, feature a large, monolithic stone linga (often 2 meters high) on a yoni pedestal (the female symbol). Many of these temples, likely unfinished or missing perishable roofs, were designed so that rainwater could flow over the linga, collecting in a ceremonial tank below.

Koh Ker stands out for its pyramid-style central temple, Prasat Thom, which is distinct from other Cambodian temples, and for being a rare, short-lived capital of the Khmer Empire, located away from Angkor. During its time as the capital, its architecture featured large-scale construction, and it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in September 2023. The site offers a more secluded and natural experience, surrounded by dense jungle.
