Experience the perfect blend of coastal adventure and cultural immersion in Callao this weekend. With ideal weather for exploration, dive into the vibrant marine life and historic charm of this Peruvian gem.
Morning Adventures: Embrace the Coastal Wonders
As the sun rises over Callao, the city awakens with a gentle breeze and the promise of adventure. The weekend weather is perfect for exploration, with temperatures hovering comfortably in the mid-60s and a high UV index reminding us to slather on sunscreen before heading out. Start your day with a thrilling Palomino Island Tour excursion, available from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This tour offers a unique opportunity to witness the vibrant marine life that thrives along Callao’s coast.
Board a modern speedboat and set sail towards the islands of San Lorenzo, Palomino, Cabinzas, and the Fronton. The highlight of this journey is undoubtedly the chance to swim with the playful sea lions, an experience that promises to be both exhilarating and heartwarming. As you glide through the waters, keep an eye out for penguins and guano birds, their presence a testament to the rich biodiversity of the region. The tour is designed to be family-friendly, ensuring that both children and adults can enjoy the wonders of the sea.
“Great trip! They provide wet suits which really helps with cold water. Know it’s not speedboat and not quick if you get seasick. Only 4 stars because of new crew member who was not helpful & slept a lot of trip. Don’t recommend buying pics. They were not good at all.” - Reviewed on 2025-01-22
Cultural Immersion: Discover Callao’s Historic Heart
After a morning spent at sea, delve into the cultural tapestry of Callao with the Callao Tour available from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This tour takes you on a journey through the upscale La Punta neighborhood and the historic center of Callao, offering a glimpse into the city’s rich history and vibrant art scene.
Begin your exploration in La Punta, a peninsula known for its rocky beaches and stunning mansions. The area exudes a distinctly Peruvian charm, with its neo-colonial and Bauhaus architecture providing a striking contrast to the natural beauty of the coastline. As you wander through the streets, take in the spectacular views and breathe in the salty sea air.
Next, venture into the historic center, where colonial architecture meets modern art. The transformation of this area from a crime-ridden neighborhood to a colorful, safe haven is a testament to the power of art and community. Stroll through the streets adorned with over 600 murals, each telling a story of resilience and creativity. The tour also includes a graffiti workshop, allowing you to unleash your inner artist and create your own piece of street art.
“The best tour ever - It was so great! We have seen beautiful places, made great activities and met wonderful people. Whenever you are in Callao or Lima you must do this. Thank you so much Alfredo for this amazing wonderful day. We will never forget.” - Reviewed on 2023-11-28

Freshly caught fish marinated in lime juice, spiced with chili peppers, and garnished with onions and cilantro, ceviche is a refreshing delight that captures the essence of Peruvian cuisine.
As you savor each bite, reflect on the day’s experiences and the vibrant culture that makes Callao a hidden gem worth exploring. The weekend may be drawing to a close, but the memories created in this coastal city will linger long after you’ve returned home. Whether you’re drawn to the sea, the art, or the food, Callao offers a weekend of exploration that promises to captivate and inspire.
“Callao if you have time - Our cruise ship docked in Callao and our schedule permitted us to take a tour of Callao before heading into Lima for 4 days. We found Alfredo to be an excellent guide - knowledgeable, friendly and totally fluent in English. For a port city, Callao has a beautiful beach area and a historical old town. We also had a hands-on lesson on graffiti art which was fun. Alfredo took us to a typical Peruvian restaurant where we had a delicious lunch. Highly recommend Alternative Peru for tours of Lima and vicinity.” - Reviewed on 2024-02-07
