- Cooks Meadow Loop - On a clear, moonless night in Yosemite Valley, the sky illuminates in a way that most have never experienced. The stars are far more numerous than those visible in urban areas, with prominent constellations like Orion and the Big Dipper clearly visible. During the right season, a misty band of the Milky Way stretches across the sky. The granite formations of El Capitan and Half Dome become dark silhouettes against the starry backdrop, while bright planets, the Pleiades, and even the faint Andromeda Galaxy can be seen with some guidance and a laser pointer. You might spot a few shooting stars or satellites passing by, as the valley itself becomes serene: cool air descends from the cliffs, the river murmurs in the background, and it feels as though almost everyone else has retired for the night, leaving this enchanting version of Yosemite just for you.
