Catching Waves and Making Memories in Caleta de Famara
Drawn by the allure of an award-winning surf school, I ventured to Caleta de Famara to experience the magic of surfing in Lanzarote. With professional instructors and a welcoming surf family, the experience was nothing short of transformative.
Arrival in Caleta de Famara
The moment I set foot in Caleta de Famara, I knew I was in for something special. The salty breeze, the sound of waves crashing on the shore, and the sight of surfers riding the waves with grace and ease—it was a scene that felt like home. As a professional surfer who’s spent years chasing waves across Central America, I was eager to see what this award-winning surf school had to offer.
The surf school, established in 2010, has been recognized with the Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence since 2014. With such accolades, my expectations were high. The instructors, all professional surfers and lifeguards, exuded a sense of calm and confidence that immediately put me at ease. Their passion for surfing was infectious, and I couldn’t wait to get started.
Riding the Waves
The first day was all about getting acquainted with the equipment and understanding the surf conditions. The instructors took the time to explain the nuances of the wind, sea, and tides, ensuring that we were well-prepared before hitting the water. The equipment was top-notch, and the structured schedule reflected the years of experience the team had.
As someone who’s spent countless hours analyzing wave conditions, I appreciated the detailed briefing. It was clear that the team at Famara Surf School knew their stuff. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly catching my first wave. The feeling of standing on the board, even for a brief moment, was exhilarating. The instructors were always by our side, offering guidance and encouragement, making the experience both safe and enjoyable.
A Surfing Family
What truly set this experience apart was the sense of community and camaraderie among the instructors and students. The harmony within the team was palpable, and it made the entire experience even more enriching. We laughed, cheered each other on, and celebrated every small victory together.
Special thanks to Dominic, Mariano, Juan, and Luciano, whose dedication and enthusiasm made the experience unforgettable. Their love for surfing and teaching was evident in every interaction, and it was a joy to be part of their surf family, even if just for a short while.
Famara is indeed a fantastic place for beginners, and I left with a renewed appreciation for the sport. The experience was not just about learning to surf; it was about embracing the ocean’s energy and the joy of riding its waves. I can’t wait to return and ride the waves with my newfound friends. Until then, the memories of this sun-soaked adventure will keep me company on my travels.
