Additionally, they will learn about Queen Tiye, another powerful queen, who was the mother of the ‘heretic’ Pharaoh Akhenaten and the grandmother of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.
During the visit to the Egyptian Museum, there will be a celebration of Wafaa El Saddik, the museum’s first female president, who continues to do exceptional work to ensure Egyptian children are aware of their rich history.
- Islamic Cairo - A brief drive will lead to the mausoleum of Shajar al-Durr, who rose from being a child slave to ruling Egypt in 1250. Visitors will hear about her life, reign, and tragic demise.
- National Museum of Egyptian Civilization NEMC - After lunch, the tour will proceed to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, returning to Ancient Egypt. Here, visitors will have the chance to view the ancient mummies of queens Hatshepsut, Tiye, Ahmose Nefertari, and Meritamen, along with exquisite jewelry and other remarkable artifacts from ancient Egypt.
- Umm Kolthoum Museum - The final stop is at the museum dedicated to a national icon of Egyptian music. Did you know that Egypt had a singer who influenced Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Bono, and Youssou N’Dour? This was Umm Kolthoum, who sold 80 million records worldwide. When she passed away in 1975, approximately four million Egyptians filled the streets to mourn her. This charming museum celebrates her life and offers an opportunity to learn more about this extraordinary woman.
