This park has received numerous accolades, including being recognized as one of the world’s sixty outstanding public spaces by the Project for Public Spaces (PPS).[1] It was established by the Historic Cities Support Programme (HCSP) under the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), which is part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). The park, which was developed with an investment exceeding USD $30 million, was a generous gift to Cairo from Aga Khan IV, a descendant of the Fatimid Imam-Caliphs who founded Cairo in 969.

The creation of the park was undertaken by the Historic Cities Support Programme (HCSP) of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). The park, which involved an expenditure of over USD $30 million, was a generous donation to Cairo from Aga Khan IV.
