- Bazar Khan El-Khalili - Pick up from your hotel in Cairo or Giza at 9 am, 10 am, or any time you request. The market dates back to the 14th century when Emir Dajaharks Al-Khalili constructed a large market complex on the site of the Za’afran Tomb, the burial place of the Fatimid rulers of Egypt. This construction was part of the rebuilding efforts initiated by Sultan Barquq (who ruled from 1382-1399) to help the city recover from the devastation of the Black Death in the 13th and 14th centuries. Today, the market has been significantly modernized, but some sections still showcase the original Mamluk-style architecture, featuring grand archways and vaulted ceilings. The market also has several restaurants and cafés where you can take a break from shopping. Al Fishawy, the oldest café in Cairo, is adorned with large mirrors and old furniture and was once frequented by Naguib Mahfouz, the Egyptian Nobel laureate author. Return to hotel.
