Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - Saqqara, also known as Sakkara, is a part of the vast necropolis of Memphis, the capital of the Old Kingdom. The kings of the Old Kingdom are interred here, 12 miles southwest of Cairo. The renowned step pyramid of King Zoser stands as one of the most significant stone structures in human history and is the first pyramid built in ancient Egypt, predating those at Giza by centuries.
