Baharya - the White Desert

Black Desert - The Black Desert is a region characterized by volcano-shaped and widely spaced mounds, stretching approximately 30 km (19 mi) in western Egypt, situated between the White Desert to the south and the Bahariya Oasis to the north. Most of these mounds are topped with basalt sills, giving them their distinctive black appearance.

White Desert - The White Desert Protected Area is a National Park located in the Farafra depression, 45 km (28 mi) north of the town of Qasr Al Farafra. A portion of the park lies within the Farafra Oasis. The park is renowned for its large white chalk rock formations, sculpted by wind and sand erosion. It also features cliffs at the northern end of the Farafra Depression, sand dunes that are part of the Great Sand Sea, as well as Wadi Hennis and oases at Ain El Maqfi and Ain El Wadi. White Desert National Park spans an area of 300 km² (120 sq mi). The park’s highest point is El Qess Abu Said at 353 m (1,158 ft) above sea level, while the lowest is Wadi Hennis at 32 m (105 ft). The park is a sanctuary for various animals, including the endangered rhim gazelle, the vulnerable dorcas gazelle, Barbary sheep, jackals, Rüppell’s, red and fennec foxes, and the sand cat.

Bahariya Oasis - Crystal Mountain is a remarkable geological formation in Egypt’s White Desert, located between the Bahariya Oasis and Farafra Oasis. It is not a traditional mountain but rather a hill adorned with calcite and quartz crystals, formed from ancient caves pushed to the surface by geological pressure. Its sparkling appearance and natural arch make it a popular stop on desert safari tours, though visitors are encouraged to preserve it by refraining from removing any crystals.
