Wadi Al Hitan is a protected area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. Known to scientists as Zeuglodon Valley, it was discovered in 1936 and is situated 35 km west of Wadi El-Rayan, deep in the Western Desert. This fossil-rich area is an open-air museum dating back 45 million years, featuring petrified primitive whale skeletons, shark teeth, shells, and mangrove roots preserved in soft rocks. Everywhere you look, you’ll find petrified sea shells and corals.
