• Cairo Citadel - Begins at 10:00 am. Pickup from your hotel by our expert tour guide and transfer to the Citadel of Salah El Din in Cairo. Here, you will visit the Mohamed Ali Mosque, considered one of the most beautiful mosques in Cairo. It is also known as the Alabaster Mosque because its outer walls are covered with Alabaster Stone.

• Al Rifai Mosque - Followed by a visit to the renowned Al-Rifa’i Mosque. This building is located opposite the Mosque-Madrassa of Sultan Hassan, dating back to around 1361, and was designed to complement the older structure. This was part of a vast campaign by the 19th-century rulers of Egypt to associate themselves with the perceived glory of earlier periods in Egypt’s Islamic history and modernize the city.

• Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan - Next, visit one of the largest mosques in Cairo, the El Sultan Hassan Mosque, also known as Madrasa El Sultan Hassan. Founded by Sultan Hassan in 1356 A.D., this massive Mamluk-era mosque and madrassa is located near The Citadel in Cairo. Its construction began in 757 AH/1356 CE and was completed three years later “without even a single day of idleness”. At the time of its construction, the mosque was remarkable for its size and innovative architectural components. Commissioned by a sultan of a short and relatively unimpressive profile, al-Maqrizi noted that the mosque contained several “wonders of construction”. It was designed to include schools for all four Sunni schools of thought: Shafi’i, Maliki, Hanafi, and Hanbali.

• Al-Azhar Mosque - Then drive to Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo, also known as the mosque of the most resplendent. This mosque in Islamic Cairo, Egypt, was commissioned by Al-Mu’izz li-Din Allah of the Fatimid Caliphate for the newly established capital city in 970. Its name is thought to allude to the Islamic prophet Muhammad’s daughter Fatimah, a revered figure in Islam who was given the title az-Zahrā, meaning the shining or resplendent one. It was the first mosque established in Cairo, a city that has since gained the nickname “the City of a Thousand Minarets”.

• El-Imam El-Hussein - Conclude your day tour with a visit to El Hussein Mosque in Cairo, a revered mosque believed to be the burial site of the head of the prophet Muhammad’s grandson.
