It contains ancient burial grounds of Egyptian royalty, serving as the necropolis for the ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis. Saqqara is home to numerous pyramids, including the Pyramid of Djoser, sometimes called the Step Tomb, and several mastaba tombs. Located approximately 30 km (19 mi) south of modern-day Cairo, Saqqara spans an area of about 7 by 1.5 km (4.3 by 0.9 mi). Saqqara houses the oldest complete stone building complex known in history, the Pyramid of Djoser, constructed during the Third Dynasty.

Dahshur is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is situated on the Western Desert plateau at the edge of the cultivated plain. Along with the pyramid complexes at Saqqara, Abusir, and Giza to its north, it forms the pyramid fields of the ancient capital city of Memphis. The walls of the tomb depict various scenes of everyday life. Ti (also spelled Ty) was a senior official and royal architect in the Fifth Dynasty who served under several kings. He oversaw the sun temples of Neferirkare and Niuserre. His wife was Neferhetepes.
