Cairo airport pick up - Mohamed picked me up from the airport in Cairo and brought me to my hotel safe and sound with more knowledge about Cairo since he shared a lot of information about the buildings and the area we passed by. More importantly, he escorted me all the way to the reception of the hotel to ensure that I was able to check in properly. My hotel reservation gave me the wrong address but thankfully Mohammed was still there and drove me to the new address. Highly recommended.

On the second day, we... - On the second day, we visited the Pyramids of Giza at the end of the day because our tour guide, Mr Ahmed Hishek, recommended changing the itinerary (which I should have refused to do). We were at the pyramids of Giza for just one hour before closing time, so we had to skip part of the visit. Afterwards, he asked me to write a review of the tour right then and there, and showing him before confirming (on the second day and with him present!), but of course I refused to do so in order to be able to write an honest review. The rest of the tour, the drivers and the other tour guides, like Aya, were good. The tour organisers were really helpful in fulfilling our needs, but they only responded to my messages after a few hours. The other tourists were also with the late responses unsatisfied.

Mixed Bag. Pretty comprehensive trip - but some problems - This trip was a mixed bag. In fact, it is effectively 6.5 days because there is only an evening Cairo boat trip/dinner on Day 1 and a flight back to Cairo on Day 8. But the ancient sights (especially the Pyramids and Abu Simbel) are truly stunning - a trip of a lifetime. The Nile cruise was an absolutely brilliant experience: seeing the sun rising /setting over the river and going for a swim in the small pool on deck as Egypt drifts by. Coverage: It is pretty comprehensive, covering most of the main classical sites in Egypt. The main omissions are Alexandria and the Cairo museums. Alexandria can be booked on a separate day trip. But since the organised trips mainly take place in the mornings, there is also enough time to do other things on your own. I booked Uber taxis to do the Grand Egyptian Museum, Cairo Museum, Museum of Civilisation, Valley of the Queens and Pyramids/Karnak evening light shows. Nature of the tour: Essentially, the Cairo part of the tour is private - with personal driver and guides. The Luxor/Aswan boat part was a group with English-speaking Nice Tours guests. The latter was prone to quite long delays. The hotel + boat are only loosely 5-star standard. Best described as 'faded gems'. My hotel was miles from Central Cairo, but others were put up closer to the centre. But neither the boat nor the hotel was dirty or basic and I was happy with both. The guides were very nice, for the most part, although generally quite young. Sometimes they had trouble going 'off script'. I strongly advise watching Youtube videos of each sight the evening before, so you know what to look out for. The trip also involves some very early starts - half the days started before 4.40am. If you don't want to do this, it isn't the tour for you. Cost: All meals, main access to sights, guides and taxis are included - apart from extras such the Great Pyramid interior access and Tutenkamun tomb visit in the Valley of the Kings. But there is fairly relentless pressure to tip drivers, guides, boat people, etc. There are also thinly disguised shopping trips such as Papyrus Museums and Scent Factories - just say a firm "no" if you want to avoid these. And try to avoid taxis where Ubers are available. Info: A major gripe is sheer lack of information. You are not told your hotel or boat details in advance, and the next day's programme is only circulated the evening before. When things inevitably went wrong (our balloon trip was cancelled, the entrance tickets to Abu Simbel and Philae did not materialise and some of the trips overran by 2+ hours), there was complete radio silence from Nice Tours. Overall: As I say, a trip of a lifetime. I was pleased Nice Tours took the burden of organising access to all the main Ancient Egyptian historical sights - as well as the Nile Cruise. I think it was worth the money.
