- Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory - Established in 1946 through the efforts of academician Victor Ambartsumian, who served as its first director, the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO) is located on the scenic southern slope of Mount Aragats. The observatory houses 12 observational instruments, including the notable 2.6 m Cassegrain telescope and 1m Schmidt telescope. The observatory’s scientific research primarily focuses on the instability phenomena occurring in the Universe.
