Black Desert - The Black Desert is a region characterized by volcano-shaped and widely spaced mounds, stretching approximately 30 km (19 mi) in western Egypt, situated between the White Desert to the south and the Bahariya Oasis to the north. Most of these mounds are topped with basalt sills, giving them their distinctive black appearance.

Valley of Agabat - Known as the ‘Beautiful Valley’, Agabat is located in Egypt’s Western Desert and typically serves as a stopover for tourists traveling to Bahariya and the White/Black Deserts. It is about a 4 hour 40 minute drive from Cairo and over 6 hours from Alexandria. The journey transitions from bustling cities to the tranquil and sparse desert landscapes, offering breathtaking views along the way. Agabat has no settlements due to its barren land and extreme summer temperatures, which make living conditions very challenging. Although Agabat is smaller and considered a minor valley compared to the Bahariya area, it is uniquely stunning. It features beautiful mountain formations and numerous white cliff faces similar to the White Desert, blending into the sand dunes connected to the Sahara Desert, along with unusual yellow limestone rocks. The mountain sides here are higher and steeper than those on the route to Bahariya and Farafra.

White Desert - The White Desert is the most popular and fascinating area in the Western Desert. It has been a protected area since 2002, covering a surface area of around three thousand kilometers. Along the road between Farafra and Bahariya, one can witness the first bizarre rock formations of the White Desert. Some rocks resemble animals, mushrooms, and others have completely strange shapes. The famous and dramatic gleaming chalk landscape of the Farafra Depression is one of Egypt’s most remarkable natural wonders. The unusual rock formations that rise above the white desert surface are known as inselbergs (from the German for ‘island mountain’). These rock layers were formed when the desert was underwater, with marine fauna settling at the ocean floor to create sedimentary rocks. The sparkling white landscape, adorned with almost supernatural shapes, is spectacularly illuminated at dawn, midday, and especially at sunset.
