Eating your way through the history of Buenos Aires - I did the San Telmo Street Food and Market Expedition on a Saturday and it might be the single best way to experience the oldest part of Buenos Aires. I did the Sherpa Food Tour in Palermo earlier in the week and loved it so much I had to book this one too. San Telmo is the city's history rendered edible. Denis walked us through the architecture, the waves of immigration, and the layered story of how the neighborhood became what it is, and the food at every stop reinforced what he was telling us. A few moments stood out. The empanada stop was a tiny spot where all the local workers eat, which is always the sign of something real. The market itself was busy but never overwhelming because Denis paced us well, finding pockets of breathing room when we needed them. One of my favorite moments of the entire trip happened on a detour into a quieter corner, where we met an older craftsman hand-designing a metal mate cup. Denis had a way of opening up these small, real interactions with locals that you simply could not access on your own. The group was small, about ten people, and over roughly three and a half hours we covered a remarkable amount of ground, food, and history. For what they charge, the value is honestly hard to beat. You are paying for multiple tastings, drinks, and a guide who turns the neighborhood into a story. If you are traveling solo, this is the tour to do. As a solo traveler myself, there is no version of San Telmo I could have experienced this way on my own. You need a guide who knows where to take you and who to introduce you to. Across both Sherpa tours, what stood out is that Denis runs them like you are sitting around a table with friends. Everyone gets pulled into the conversation, everyone feels comfortable, and you leave with a real understanding of the city rather than just a full stomach.

DENIS+Sugar Mate= funny tour 🤣 - If you are coming from the States and looking for your first tour, I’d tell you to skip everything else and start with this one. Denis is the guy to book with when doing a food tour in San Telmo. The reason I say this is because Denis’ character and passion for what he does truly come through. He gives you such a welcoming and warm feeling that it sets a high standard for your vacation. Honestly, after you do this tour, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. P.S. When Denis talks about mate, ask him if he likes it with sugar 🤣🤣🤣

Best Food Tour Experience in San Telmo A Must Do in Buenos Aires! - An unforgettable experience in San Telmo! Our food tour was easily the best starting point of our trip to Buenos Aires. Every stop was incredible — from the perfect empanadas to the wine, desserts, and hidden local spots we never would’ve found on our own. What truly made the experience exceptional was our guide, Denis. So knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the city’s history and food culture.
