The newly constructed Jamachen Stupa is a stunning monument located atop Budhanilkantha Hill. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley. The clean air, tranquil surroundings, and the view from the summit encourage visitors to linger and savor their time there. Although the path to reach the stupa is somewhat challenging, the destination is undoubtedly rewarding. Inside the stupa, the atmosphere is enchanting, with peaceful, melodious chanting music that inspires meditation.
Budhanilkantha features a depiction of Vishnu in a reclining position, resembling a massive astronaut floating on a bed of snakes in a large pool of water, symbolizing the cosmic ocean. The name Budhanilkantha is unrelated to Buddha and translates to “blue throat concealed by mud.”
- Be prepared to hike for a short time. The path to reach there is a bit difficult yet hiking is worthy.
- Hotel pick up outside Kathmandu city ring road in additional cost.
- The Stupa is open for visitors from 8:00 am– 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
