Peles Castle - Situated at the base of the Bucegi Mountains in the charming town of Sinaia, Peles Castle is a stunning example of German new-Renaissance architecture, often regarded as one of the most beautiful castles in Europe.
Commissioned by King Carol I in 1873 and completed in 1883, the castle was the summer residence of the royal family until 1947. Its 160 rooms are decorated with exquisite European art, Murano crystal chandeliers, German stained-glass windows, and walls covered in Cordoba leather.
Peles Castle was the first European castle to be fully illuminated by electrical current, with electricity generated by its own plant.
The castle is named after the nearby Peles Creek, which flows through the courtyard.
Romania’s first movie screening took place in 1906 in the castle’s Theater Room.
Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle) - Enveloped in mystery and legend, Bran Castle stands majestically atop a 200-foot-high rock. Its fame is attributed to its striking towers and turrets, as well as the myth surrounding Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Built on the site of a Teutonic Knights stronghold from 1212, Bran Castle was first mentioned in a document dated November 19, 1377, granting the Saxons of Kronstadt (Brasov) the right to construct the Citadel.
