Agapia Monastery - The Agapia Monastery (Romanian: Mănăstirea Agapia) is a Romanian Orthodox nunnery situated 9 km west of Târgu Neamț, in the commune of Agapia, Neamţ County. Constructed between 1641 and 1643 by Romanian hetman Gavriil Coci, brother of Vasile Lupu, the church has undergone several restorations and modifications over the centuries. It was painted by Nicolae Grigorescu between 1858 and 1861. As one of the largest nunneries in Romania, it houses 300–400 nuns, making it the second most populous after Văratec Monastery.

Varatec Monastery - Văratec Monastery is a Romanian Orthodox nunnery located in the northeastern part of the country, in Văratec village, Agapia Commune, Neamţ County. It is the largest nunnery in Romania, with over 400 nuns residing there.

Painted monasteries in Bucovina

Sucevita Monastery - The church’s architecture features a blend of Byzantine and Gothic elements, along with characteristics typical of other painted churches in northern Moldavia. Both the interior and exterior walls are adorned with mural paintings of significant artistic value, depicting biblical scenes from the Old and New Testament.

Moldovita Monastery - The Moldovița Monastery (Romanian: Mânăstirea Moldovița) is a Romanian Orthodox monastery located in the commune of Vatra Moldoviței, Suceava County, Moldavia, Romania. Built in 1532 by Petru Rareș, the illegitimate son of Stephen III of Moldavia, the monastery was established as a defensive barrier against the Muslim Ottoman invaders from the East.

Manastirea Voronet - The Voroneț Monastery is a medieval monastery in the Romanian village of Voroneț, now part of the town Gura Humorului. It is one of the renowned painted monasteries in southern Bukovina, Suceava County. Constructed by Stephen the Great in 1488 over a span of 3 months and 3 weeks to celebrate the victory at the Battle of Vaslui, the monastery is often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of the East.” The frescoes at Voroneț are famous for their vivid shade of blue, known in Romania as “Voroneț blue.”
