A wonderful peek into the beauty and lives of real people of Bucerias. - My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our guide, Mauricio, and the artisans we visited. We learned so much about Mexico’s story and how people live and work here and their stories of how they came to this part of Mexico from their hometowns. Meeting them in their homes and seeing their workshops and getting to know them were priceless. I know the gift this was of getting away from the tourist areas and the beach and actually seeing the faces and learning the names and stories of these artisans who may have been selling their wares on the beach or in their shops where I’ve been. Lunch was delicious fish tacos, homemade salsa and agua fresca in the home of proud cooks. This was my third tour with Human Connections and I highly recommend this group and their work! Travel is all about human connections, after all, in addition to seeing beauty and enjoying new experiences.

Excellent cultural experience in Bucerias - This was a very interesting cultural experience. We visited an artisan who made wooden utensils and it is very interesting to see how he lived and how he made the utensils. We then went to a weaver’s house who explained about the process and how he made some blankets. Our final destination was a person‘s home in which she served us an outstanding meal of chicken mole.
We learned about each person‘s lives and what they were involved in. Claudia and Mauricio were fantastic tour hosts.
I strongly recommend this tour for anyone interested in a cultural experience in Bucerias.

Amazing, intentional cultural experience - We went on a private shorter cultural tour during our company retreat for our creative agency and had an amazing time. Maurizio was an incredible guide and host and brought us to two different artisan's homes where we learned so much about the history of arts, crafts, and more from the region and beyond. So inspiring and engaging and really appreciate the care and intentionality that Human Connections puts into their work

Best Tour in the Puerto Vallarta and Surrounding Areas! - This is our third time to take a Human Connections tour. Obviously, we think this is well worth the time and highly recommend it to travelers of all ages. You will never see local vendors in the same light because you will gain insight into their struggles and their persistence in overcoming adversity. The tour guide is extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and helpful in translating.
For sure, we will go on another tour next year!

Best Tour Ever! - This was far the best cultural tour that I've been on. Maurico, our tour guide was so personable and has a great wealth of knowledge of Mexican culture and history. The family businesses we visited were so interesting and we ended the day with the most authentic and delicious Mexican lunch. There was no pressure to buy from the artisans as they are paid well by Human Connections. As a result this tour was elevated to a relaxed genuine and engaging experience. This tour company truly amplifies the human connections through these artisans stories. I plan to take in all of their day tours.

Looking beyond the beach vendor - When we visit the PV area, we look forward to participating in a variety of the experiences that are offered to get a glimpse of another culture, whether it be a cooking class, walking taco tour or visiting a nearby village. The description for the Bucerias Cultural Day tour immediately caught our attention by the promise of meeting actual families and learning about their history and culture. Our guide, Mauricio, was clearly passionate about the mission of Human Connections as well as deeply knowledgeable of his diverse Mexican culture and history. You could see his “human connection” with the people we met on this tour through his interactions with them as well as his excitement to share their stories.
Leo was our first stop where we learned of her family and culture in a small indigenous village before she migrated to Bucerias. Bring tissue as she tells of her challenging youth, very early motherhood and triumphant rise above what would seem impossible odds. She serves as a courageous model and inspiration to not only the women and girls in her community but also the women (and men) who are privileged to hear her story. Her beadwork and jewelry are beautiful, but watching her work, understanding the time and detail of each piece, gave us a deeper understanding of the value of her finished product.
Our second stop was Roberto, a weaver from Oaxaca who now lives with his family in Bucerias. He learned his craft starting as a child watching his elders weave the many designs and patterns into beautiful blankets and mats. He described what each of the patterns meant to his people, the mountains, diamonds and butterflies. He also shared with us the variety of wool colors he uses as well as how they use plants and insects to dye the multiple tones of color found in the weaving. We will never look at another blanket or mat in the market the same.
Our final stop was a family that taught us how to create a variety of delicious, yet simple, salsas using various chilies, tomatillo, onion and garlic and changing the flavor by roasting or keeping fresh. The salsas were a prelude to a very tasty mole with beef and mushrooms unlike any we’ve had before. Barley water was our beverage which was perfect for putting out that little bit of picante from the salsa. The meal was complete after a dessert of rice pudding.
We would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a more intimate understanding of Mexican culture. We would also like to give a shout out to Paco who very kindly brought us to our tour location as we struggled with public transportation. We are slowly getting better!
