Highly reccomended historical walking tour. - A wonderful fascinating historical walking tour around Bridgetown with Claudette a passionate local historian.
What Claudette doesn't know isn't worth knowing and her enthusiasm is infectious!
The pace is gentle and suitable for all, with regular stops to appreciate and absorb the history of where you are. Claudette supplies a bottle of iced water at the begining and then treats you to some local delicacies enroute.

Insightful living history I will always remember - Immensely enjoyable, close-up introduction to Bridgetown's history and population. Claudette started us off with introductions, creating a cohesive and friendly international group. I was awed by her encyclopedic knowledge as a trained historian, plus her passionate opinions and connection to her country. The walking pace and distance were easy but every step counted--the shady spots appreciated. We zoomed from big picture to small details (the cannons on street corners). Thank you Claudette and best wishes!

Great historical tour of Bridgetown - A really insightful tour of old Bridgetown. I learned a lot of Barbados history. The restored synagogue was really interesting (I went back and saw it and the museum after the tour.). And I’m not even Jewish.

Storytelling and history with a unique and delightful perspective. - We had a spectacular tour of Bridgetown with Claudette. So much Barbados history from someone who both knows a lot about the country and loves it. If you’re looking for a “dead white guys” tour - this isn’t it (for which our party of 5 was extremely greatful.) There are some dead white guys mentioned - and their importance in founding the country is acknowledged - but the best part of the presentation was learning about the history of ALL people who came to Barbados and worked for equality, freedom and independence.
Claudette is a master storyteller and her words and the setting wove facts and tidbits into a wonderful tapestry that showed us the history of Bridgetown.

One of the highlights of our trip to Barbados! - We only wish we could give Claudette and her tour more than five stars.
This was our second time joining her Walking Tour of Historic Bridgetown. We first experienced it in 2025 as part of a small group, and it left such a lasting impression that when we returned to Barbados this year, booking a private tour with Claudette was an easy decision.
She thoughtfully tailored the experience to reflect our interests, delving into the history of enslavement in Barbados, Bridgetown’s pre- and post-emancipation eras, and the city’s sacred spaces. Every stop felt meaningful and intentional.
Claudette possesses a rare ability to make history vivid and immediate. Drawing on her depth as a historian and her genuine love for Barbados and its people—past and present—she delivers a tour that is both illuminating and deeply moving. Her scholarly perspective sets her apart, grounding each story in thoughtful analysis. She compels us to see that understanding the past is essential to interpreting the present.
Her historian’s lens distinguishes this tour from others. She does not simply recount events; she situates them within broader social, political, and cultural frameworks, offering invaluable context for understanding how Barbados became the nation it is today. The result is an experience that is intellectually rich, socially conscious, and deeply resonant.
For anyone who values rigorous history, social justice, or the cultural heritage of Barbados, this tour is essential. Claudette is not only a gifted guide but a true historian—thoughtful, incisive, and profoundly committed to preserving and interpreting Barbados’ cultural legacy.

A talking rather than walking tour. - Our guide was friendly, approachable and very knowledgeable. The tour helpfully included a bottle of water and some local pastries and fruit juice drinks were provided at the end of the tour.
However, we didn’t walk very far….more a talking tour than a walking tour.
Although the guide promised not to bombard us with dates, there so many that eventually I just let them wash over me.
We started the tour sitting on the steps in Independence Square to listen to an ‘introduction’ to the history of Barbados. After 30 minutes we’d only got as far as 1700 and hadn’t moved. After 45 minutes we’d got as far the opposite side of the square.
After that we began to move on and explore some of the other city centre streets and buildings and the tour became more interesting.
