- Čičmany - The picturesque village of Čičmany, nestled among the Strážovské vrchy and Malá Fatra mountains in the southern part of the Rajecká dolina valley, is renowned for its distinctive log houses adorned with traditional white ornamentation.
The unique feature of the log houses in Čičmany is their exteriors, decorated with geometric patterns. Traditionally, women were the creators of these ornaments, initially decorating only the corners of the houses with mud, and later with lime. However, since the 19th century, these motifs have been expanded and painted across the entire exterior of the unplastered log houses.
The purpose of the painting was to protect the logs from the effects of sunlight. Geometric ornamentation was also used in embroidery on garments, pictures, and tablecloths. The reserve includes 136 houses.
