Perched on a cliff, the castle now hosts the Bran Museum, which spans four floors. While international visitors flock annually to explore the legend of Count Dracula, and guides highlight its mythical aspects, the rich history of Bran Castle captivates them equally. Râşnov Fortress (Rosenau in German) is perched on a rocky hilltop in the Carpathian Mountains, 650 ft. above the town of Râşnov. First documented in 1331, the fortress was constructed by Teutonic Knights for protection against invading Tartars and was later expanded by the local Saxon community.
- Peles Castle - Peleș Castle (Romanian: Castelul Peleș pronounced [kasˈtelul ˈpeleʃ] ⓘ) is a Neo-Renaissance palace located in the Royal Domain of Sinaia in the Carpathian Mountains, near Sinaia, in Prahova County, Romania, on a historic route connecting Transylvania and Wallachia. Built between 1873 and 1914, it was inaugurated in 1883 for King Carol I of Romania. The initial three design proposals for Peleș were replicas of other Western European palaces, which King Carol I dismissed for lacking originality and being too expensive. German architect Johannes Schultz won the project by offering a unique design that appealed to the King’s taste: a grand alpine castle blending various classic European styles, primarily Italian elegance and German aesthetics in Renaissance fashion. Further additions were made between 1893 and 1914 by Czech architect Karel Liman.
