- Braga - Braga is a city of immense beauty and rich heritage, blending tradition with innovation, memory with youth, and creativity with conservatism.
With a history spanning over 2000 years, it boasts one of Europe’s oldest Sacro-Montes and represents the Minho region with the Bom Jesus.
Braga’s Roman legacy is another draw, often referred to as the ‘Portuguese Rome’ due to its origins in the Roman city of Bracara Augusta. The city is known for its distinctive churches, magnificent 18th-century houses, gardens, nature parks, and recreational areas. Braga’s long history is evident in the splendor of its monuments, museums, and churches.
Visiting Braga is like traveling through time within modernity. This ancient city, known for its traditional religiousness and majestic richness, coexists with a spirit of entrepreneurship and youthfulness in vital areas such as culture, commerce, gastronomy, industry, and services.

Igreja da Lapa - The Church of Lapa, often mistaken for the Arcada, owes its appearance to a 1757 event when a priest and Canon of the Cathedral of São Paulo preached in Portugal, and Braga hosted this religious event in the Arcada.
The space became quite popular, and the Canon placed a stamp of Our Lady of Lapa there, using the opportunity to preach, pray, and sing to attract people. Devotion grew so much that D. Gaspar de Bragança, Archbishop of Braga, authorized the construction of a chapel. - Torre de Menagem - A National Monument since 1910, the Keep is almost all that remains of the city’s old castle.
Located at the highest point of the medieval town, it features a coat of arms of D. Fernando over the door. The castle is mentioned in documents from the early 14th century, although construction was ordered after the invasions of 1369. Demolished in 1906, it had six towers, traces of which still survive.

Jardim de Santa Barbara - These small but charming public gardens are adjacent to the eastern wing of the 14th-century Archbishop’s Palace. The garden leverages the historic backdrop and incorporates the medieval arches that remain from the palace arcade. Laid out in the 1950s, the garden was designed by Jose Cardoso da Silva in the Romantic style, in harmony with its surroundings.
The garden’s geometric layout features elements from the palace, such as old statues, cornices, and coats of arms. At the center is a statue of Saint (Santa) Barbara on a fountain.
The Santa Barbara Garden is open year-round and is centrally located in Braga. It’s a great spot to escape the city’s hustle and relax among the greenery and beautifully arranged flower beds.
- Arco da Porta Nova - The Arco da Porta Nova is one of the city’s most iconic buildings, not only for its architectural and urban significance but also because it inspired the local saying when someone leaves a door open: “Are you from Braga?”
-
Se de Braga - The Cathedral of Braga is a Roman Catholic church in the northern city of Braga, Portugal. Due to its long history and artistic significance, it is one of the country’s most important buildings. It is the seat of the Archdiocese of Braga and the Primate Archbishop of Portugal and Spain.
You will visit the Cathedral, the Chapels, the High Choir, and the Treasury-Museum. - Bom Jesus Do Monte - Before the day ends, like the cherry on top of the cake (or in this case, the tour), head to the hillside church and sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte. You can take a ride on the world’s oldest operational lift/funicular, powered by water counterbalance, or climb its majestic and beautifully designed stairs. At the top, you’ll have a stunning view over Braga before heading back to the hotel.
