My teenage daughter and I attended a 1-hour glassblowing class and would go back in a heartbeat! We were greeted by friendly staff and the studio is a sunny, clean warehouse filled with beautiful glass pieces, large and small, for inspiration or purchase. We decided which project to make and which colors, then got hands-on instruction from David, our enthusiastic instructor who has over a year of experience (a way cool, easy-going dude, former marine) who showed us how to take molten glass from a vat and transform it into a pumpkin or paperweight. Safety is observed by using protective arm sleeves and sunglasses (no gloves) and alcohol wipes are provided for mouthpieces. Fans were running to keep everyone comfortable. A young couple joined us, making 4 people in the class, which ran more than 1 hour, probably because we were all captivated. My daughter made a paperweight and she got to use metal tools to randomly twist up the multi-colored molten glass into a crazy shape for its center. A different group (6 people) also created some beautiful pieces, including an aqua colored bowl with white polka dots and fluted rim, wow. Before we left we chatted with a pleasant staff member who was packaging colorful swirled heart-shaped ornaments to fill orders for boutique shops. We used a Groupon but even without it we highly recommend. Great fun and lovely keepsakes!
My friend and I had a great time. It's fun to learn something new and we really enjoyed it. Our instructor (Kim I think...) was fun and funny and very informative! I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to have some fun and learn something new!
Excellent instruction in a relaxed, informal, and inspiring setting!
