The Firearm Safety Class (007) was everything I was expecting and more. I learned alot and the class was very valuable.
The best parts of the class were:
1) The instructor (Paul): Our instructor's presentation and teaching style was calm, clear and concise. It was obvious he had tons of experience and was there for us to teach us everything needed and more, rather than just someone covering required content. Paul did not just to go through the motions. He was very detailed with the content and provided excellent examples, great commentary and great advise throughout the class. I can see where this class could have been "streamlined" whereby an instructor could have simply read through all the content and finish in a few hours. However, if that was the case, I would have been disappointed and the class would have not delivered the value that it did. I appreciate how Paul took his time to cover/explain many things along the way that really made sense and how he was able to answer many questions I had before needing to ask. Bottom line, Paul was an excellent instructor and really made the class truly valuable.
I took the class with my 3 kids. Knowing the class was to be about 4 hours long, I was bit concerned going into the class that my daughter (the youngest) would lose interest at some point. However, I was pleasantly surprised she paid attention throughout the entire class. I believe Paul's presentation style was a factor in holding her attention for the entire class.
2) Hands-on Loading/Unloading: One major aspect of the class was the ability actually handle 5 real guns and load/unload each of them. This started with Paul took out five different pistols and showed us how to load and unload them. Then, each person was able to take a turn at loading/unloading each one. It's one thing to watch an instructor demo how to load/unload a gun, but it's a much different thing (in a good way) to be able to try to do it yourself with real guns and dummy ammo. That was very good and a unique experience. I believe this is a differentiator over other classes out there.
3) Price: The $88 price point for this class was great. I believe this is a bargain for the value received.
One suggestion to improve the value of the class would have been to include handouts of the content. There was so much good info/advise provided that I felt the need to take notes throughout the class to use for future reference.
Other than the suggestion for handouts, I honestly don't have any further suggestions to make the class better. I was very satisfied with the class, the content and instructor.
One negative thing to mention is that the discount certificate for Four Seasons is worthless. The discount is good for 30 days after the date of the class. However, I don't believe I will be able to actually receive my LTC within 30 days making the discount pretty much worthless. I guess I could go buy some accessories, but I know I won't be any gun accessory before buying a gun.
Bottom line... the class was fantastic! I would highly recommend this class to anyone interested.
