The North End to the Freedom Trail tour seamlessly merges the North End Food Tour with the History and Highlights Tour, creating an exceptional half-day experience that offers a thorough introduction to the charming city of Boston.
The journey begins at the vibrant Boston Harbor, with a stroll through a picturesque waterfront park. The tour then leads to the heart of the North End, showcasing some of the city’s most historic landmarks. In the North End, delicious food is always nearby. The guide will take you to a quaint, hidden Italian bakery known for its freshly baked bread. Following this, a visit to an authentic Italian salumeria offers a taste of Italian meats and cheeses. The tour continues along Hanover Street, the bustling hub of the North End, where a break at a traditional Italian café awaits.
Participants will hear captivating stories about significant events in Boston’s history, including Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride. The tour proceeds to the Old North Church, allowing a visit inside its revered walls.
A slice of pizza from a local favorite is next, followed by sampling the finest Italian pastries in the neighborhood’s charming backstreets.
The tour extends beyond the North End, with a leisurely walk through some of Boston’s finest markets and green spaces. The second part of the journey begins at the Aquarium “T” Station, where more group members join. From the Harbor, the tour continues past the Rose Kennedy Greenway, State Street, and the historic Custom House Tower, Boston’s first skyscraper. The guide then leads the way to the renowned Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market.
In the heart of Downtown Boston, the tour pauses at the Old State House and the site of the Boston Massacre. Was it truly a massacre or perhaps effective propaganda for the Revolution? A brief walk through Downtown Crossing and past the Old City Hall leads to King’s Chapel Burial Ground and King’s Chapel, some of the nation’s most historic sites. During the tour, there will be an opportunity to rest and enjoy a refreshing local beer.
On most weekdays, visitors can observe government proceedings inside the inspiring and historic Massachusetts State House. Outside, the views of modern Boston, including Downtown’s skyscrapers, the Financial District, and New England’s tallest building, the John Hancock Tower, are impressive. The tour continues through Beacon Hill, showcasing Boston’s iconic red brick row houses.
The tour concludes at the beautiful Boston Public Garden, a beloved green space where locals can be seen walking dogs, playing with children, and enjoying lunch in the shade.
