- Lago di Carezza - Arrive at the enchanting Lago di Carezza, renowned for its crystal-clear emerald waters, lush forests, and stunning views of the Dolomites and the Latemar Mountain range. The guide will share the legend of the lake and its nymph, as well as the origin of its Ladin name, Lec de Ergobando, meaning the rainbow lake. Enjoy a stroll along the lake’s shore and capture breathtaking photos. (40-minute drive and 30-minute stop at the lake).
- Carezza - Depart from Lago di Carezza and journey over the Costalunga Pass. The route passes the iconic Grand Hotel Carezza (approximately a 30-minute drive). This hotel was the area’s first luxury establishment, built in the 19th century along the Great Dolomites Road, which was constructed in the early 1900s to boost tourism in the Dolomites. Despite its glamorous history and notable guests (Winston Churchill, Empress Sissi of Austria, Agatha Christie), the hotel has lost its allure and was recently embroiled in a scandal. The guide will share intriguing stories and gossip about it! Bid farewell to Alto Adige and welcome Trentino!
- Vigo di Fassa - Continue the tour into the heart of Val di Fassa (about a 20-minute drive), known in traditional legends as the Land of Salvans, the original inhabitants of the Ladin Valleys. Stop in the picturesque village of Vigo and visit the Museum of Ladin Culture to learn more about this ancient population, its traditions, and language. 1 to 1.5-hour visit.
- Fassa Valley - After visiting the museum, stop at a local Agriturismo - Farmstead for a tasting of local products (charcuterie of cold cuts, cheeses) with beverages.
- Passo Pordoi - Depart Val Di Fassa, crossing the border between Trentino and Veneto, and ascend a steep, winding road (total 27 bends) to reach the Pordoi Pass (7,345 feet - 2,239 meters). The guide will recount the history of the pass, known as one of the toughest stages of the renowned Giro d’Italia – an internationally acclaimed road cycling competition – and of cyclist Fausto Coppi, as well as its role in the Yellow Line battlefront during WWI. Enjoy free time to take the modern cable car, which ascends in just 4 minutes to 9,678 feet - 2,950 meters. At the top, discover the panoramic terrace nestled among the mountains, where on a sunny day, you can relax on a deck chair while admiring a stunning 360-degree view of all the major peaks of the Dolomites: Marmolada, Pale di San Martino, Sassolungo, the southern reaches of Ortles, Cevedale, and the Swiss and Austrian Alps. The cable car operates from mid-May to mid-October and from Christmas to Easter.
- Passo Sella - Leave Passo Pordoi behind and continue exploring the Mighty Dolomites by driving up to the Sella Pass (about 30 minutes), where you can enjoy the view of the majestic Sassolungo (10,436 feet - 3,131 meters), the most famous mountain in Gardena Valley. The English-speaking guide will explain how the Dolomites were formed and what makes them distinct and unique from the Alps.
- Ortisei - Return to Alto Adige and head towards Ortisei (about a 40-minute trip), a charming mountain village located in Gardena Valley, at the heart of the UNESCO Heritage site of the Dolomites and the birthplace of Giorgio Moroder, the father of Disco Music. Ortisei is also renowned for its centuries-old wood carving tradition and as one of the Ladin Valleys in Alto Adige. Enjoy a discovery walk with the guide and some free time before returning to Bolzano. 30-minute stop, followed by a 40-minute drive back to Bolzano.
