Pilanesberg National Park, also known as Pilanesberg Game Reserve, is situated in the Bojanala Region within the North West Province, conveniently close to Johannesburg. Covering an area of 550 km², it ranks as the fourth largest park in South Africa. The park is located within a volcanic crater that erupted 1,300 million years ago. Originally, Pilanesberg was owned by three local tribes. Numerous Stone Age and Iron Age sites around the reserve provide evidence of human presence.
Some of the park’s most stunning scenery can be found in the Mankwe Dam area, which is the largest body of water in the game reserve.
